The European BlockStart consortium led by Bright Pixel announced the 10 selected startups in the areas of fintech, retail and ICT that will develop their prototypes during the next four months. Among those chosen are two small and medium-sized Portuguese companies (SMEs), Vawlt, with management optimization and data storage solutions, and Azzur Portugal, specialist in accounting, business consulting, tax advice and company recovery. All of them can receive a maximum equity free financing and mentoring of 20 thousand euros.
The first call of the European project that wants to promote the adoption of blockchain technology by small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in the region thus closes its first call, after in the 2019 edition of the Web Summit it had pre-selected a project to participate in the program. Among 90 startups from 30 countries as candidates, only 20 were selected and 10 had the green light to move on to the prototype development phase. After this period, the top five projects will be implemented by participating SMEs.
The pitch took place last week and brought together more than 70 participants, including startups, SMEs and other experts. Given the current pandemic of COVID-19, the event was adapted to an online format, with 42 matchmaking meetings between blockchain startups and participating SMEs.
Among those chosen are two Portuguese SMEs. The chosen ones were Vawlt, a specialist in management optimization and data storage solutions, and Azzur Portugal, a company that offers accounting, business consultancy, tax and business recovery services.
In addition to the Portuguese, CAM Engineering, CopyRage, Latitudo 40, Lift4Food, ELDRO TECHNOLOGIE, Tickets for Good, We Encourage and Poljoprivredno Gazdinstvo will also be able to implement the projects that are now being developed and introduce blockchain technology in their services.
The consortium, led by Bright Pixel in partnership with the technological community F6S and innovation consultant CIVITTA, will take place over the next two years, during which two more calls will be launched. The next is scheduled for July.
