Bing includes Facebook “likes” in search

Microsoft announced new changes to the Bing search. Among the updates is the possibility to check in the results which content related to the search that the user’s contacts on Facebook “liked”. The novelty is only available in the international version of the search engine.

The change comes at a time when the popularity of the social network grows visibly – Facebook has more than 500 million users and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was named personality of the year by Time. The software giant thus tries to keep up with developments, and take advantage of trends, to grow its share in the search market, dominated by Google.

The tool includes among the search results the reference to content that the user’s contacts on Facebook have “liked”. To do this, you must first activate the connection with the account on the social network, through the option “connect to Facebook”, in the menu “Sign in”, in the upper right corner of Bing.

The update is presented following the feedback positive of users to a first experience of integration with the social network, to help classify the results according to the “tastes” of the user’s friends, explained in the service’s blog. Those responsible also say that the number of sites included in the search for “likes” has now increased.

According to the person in charge of Bing’s business area, the company’s work should reflect the fact that the Web is becoming “increasingly complex and multifaceted and not less”.

“We are developing new technologies that help Bing understand what people want to do” and provide “the right experiences” to help them achieve their goals, says Satya Nadella, quoted in the online message.
