About a month and a half ago, we commented that Apple and Spotify, despite the fights and disagreements, they were talking about the possibility of integrating the main competitor of Apple Music with Siri. In practice, you can ask the Apple virtual assistant to play an album /playlist/ specific music on Spotify and everything will work perfectly. This is already becoming reality, as informed by the The Verge.
According to the website, the latest beta version of the iOS app includes such support. In this way, Apple Music and Spotify are basically on an equal footing when it comes to integrating with Siri – with the difference that, if you want to play something on Spotify, you need to inform Siri for the action to be performed on the service.
See the integration working in practice:
Unfortunately, at least for now, this integration doesn’t work on the Apple Watch – that’s because, in practice, the Spotify app for watchOS is not a dedicated app, but basically a controller of what is being played. THE The Verge nor was it able to say whether the integration will be present in the HomePod, but as this does not have much to do with the iOS app itself (it depends more on an integration on Apple’s servers), such integration, at this moment, is unlikely.
In AirPods everything works perfectly, since Apple headphones serve as a “mirror” of what is happening on the iPhone; however, attempting to play a podcast (such as MacMagazine On Air) on Spotify asking Siri still doesn’t work very well, as the assistant is looking for music instead of podcasts. ??♂️
Still, as we said, the app is in the testing phase and a lot can change / improve until the final availability of the resource for users. Let’s hope this happens as soon as possible!
