The first beta version of OpenOffice.org 3 for Windows is available – including Vista – and Mac OS X, which allows users of the Apple operating system to install the software without having to integrate the X11 module.
The new version of the productivity suite, competing with Office, includes several improvements over previous editions, including support for the OpenDocument Format 1.2 standard and full compatibility with the formats of suite Microsoft productivity tools (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, and more).
The OpenOffice.org 3 beta also includes the new Start Center, renewed icon aesthetics, improvements in Calc, including a new Solver, view of multiple pages in Writer, partial VBA support, among other news. Soon, the possibility of importing files and PDF is expected.
