With the functionality, it is possible to find friends, send routes or track the route of acquaintances. Most services allow not only to monitor contacts that have made their position available, but also to disable transmission of the position at any time.

To facilitate meetings in unfamiliar places or even inform you how long it will take you to get somewhere, Google Maps has a feature to share your live route with friends. The user can still send the location in real time through third-party applications, such as WhatsApp and Messenger.

The popular WhatsApp messaging service allows contacts to track your location live. To activate the function just select «Share current location» and set the time, which varies between fifteen minutes to eight hours. You can stop sharing at any time. The feature works for both individual and group conversations. In addition, the app also displays on a single map the location of everyone who shared the location in the same conversation.

In addition to enabling the transmission of a fixed point, Facebook Messenger allows you to share your position, even on the move, for up to 60 minutes. To use the feature, turn on your smartphone’s GPS, open a conversation and choose the “Location” option, indicated by an arrow. Finally, touch the blue bar to send the information live.

Find My Friends is the Apple app for you to easily find friends and family who have chosen to share locations. The app comes with the iOS 9 operating system and, if not installed on the device, can be downloaded for free by users of iOS 8 or later. With the service, the user is able to notify when he has left or arrived at some place or to configure notifications when the contact arrives or leaves a certain point. Free for both Android and iPhone, the Life360 is ideal for tracking friends and family. The user can register a Connection Circle to track the movement of his contacts. The app also has some paid functions, such as emergency roadside assistance and protection against cell phone theft. It also has a “panic” feature that alerts your entire circle via call, email and SMS.

With the Zenly social map, you can follow friends in real time. In addition to showing where a person is, the tool, available for Android and iPhone, offers a free integrated chat. In addition, the application provides a function to contact authorities in cases of risk, passing on the current location and driver information.

To increase passenger safety, 99 released a feature to share the route, in real time, with people trusted by users. In addition to the location, the contact still receives the name of the driver and the license plate of the vehicle. The app updated with this function, temporarily called “New 99”, is available with the update of the existing app.

Glympse’s main objective is to share the user’s location. With a profile on the service, it is possible to send a notification of your position to any device with Internet access, even if it does not have the application installed.
