Benchmarks of 16 ″ MacBook Pro with AMD Radeon Pro 5600M GPU surprise

This week Apple started offering a customization option for the 16-inch MacBook Pro with one AMD Radeon Pro 5600M GPU, more powerful. Although it is an extremely expensive upgrade (at least R $ 7,000), it certainly offers the expected return for the user who takes the scorpion out of his pocket, as seen in benchmarks performed by the YouTube channel Max Tech.

As tests show, the 5600M GPU is noticeably faster than the 5500M (4GB), which comes standard with the top-of-the-line model and even faster than the 5300M of the entry-level model. According to Apple, the increase in performance can be up to 75% and while this is not always exactly true, the difference is, in fact, significant.

In some benchmarks and games, for example, the new 5600M GPU almost twice as fast than the 5300M. What is even more impressive, however, is that the 5600M is able to beat the Vega 56 that equips the iMac Pro given the power and ventilation restrictions of the MacBook Pro compared to the desktop.

Numerically, while the 16 ″ MacBook Pro equipped with the new 5600M card achieved 43,144 points in the Metal tests of Geekbench 5, the model equipped with the 5500M (8GB) reached 28,748 points. The input version (with a 4GB 5300M) obtained 21,328 points in the same test, which is basically half the performance of the new GPU.

In practice, this performance gain is reflected mainly in intense graphic tasks. At the benchmark Heaven, for example, the 5300M GPU only achieves 38.4 frames per second in the toughest configurations, while the 5500M version obtained 51.1fps and the new 5600M board reached 75.5 fps again, almost twice the performance of the entry model.

The new 5600M GPU also renders 4K video in Final Cut Pro more quickly, but the final results were not so different between models. A 4K video was exported in 3 minutes and 36 seconds with the 5300M; in 3 minutes and 21 seconds with the 5500M; and in 3 minutes and 3 seconds with the new 5600M. The new GPU, in this case, was therefore only 15% faster than the entry level.

In addition to the faster 8GB HBM2 memory, the 5600M GPU also comes with 40 computational cores, which also contributes to exceptional performance. All this power, however, is more useful for professionals who work with editing tasks or graphic software, and the entry and top-of-the-line versions (with the standard configurations) certainly already account for most of the message for the average users. .
