Battle Royale's biggest games revenue exceeds $ 2 billion

If the mobile gaming universe is a money mine, one of bonana's sources certainly comes from Battle royale (real battle electronic games). There is no doubt that gender is among the most popular of the mobile device platform and in that case with success comes (a lot) money!

That's exactly how much these games made on mobile platforms, such as the App Store and Google Play, that the Sensor Tower analysis firm released in its most recent report. According to the survey, the top five games of Battle royale raised more than $ 2 billion in less than two years!

Sensor Tower specifically added revenue from the following games: Knives Out, Fortnite, PUBG MOBILE, Garena Free Fire, and Rules of Survival. Knives Out topped the ranking with a revenue of $ 643 million, followed by Fornite, with $ 630 million Note that while revenue from the former includes sales on iOS and Android, revenue from the latter is restricted to the App Store only.

According to the firm, the players' spending on the above five titles reached, only during the first quarter of this year, $ 476 million. About 31 percent of that amount went to Tencent Games PUBG MOBILE, which grossed $ 148 million over that period.

Fortnite, on the other hand, saw its share of total revenue fall to 25% last quarter (up from 34% in the last quarter of 2018) to approximately $ 119.4 million. Similarly, Knives Out and Rules of Survival decreased in the first quarter of 2019 from the last of 2018.

Analyst Randy Nelson explained these declines:

There are some important reasons why we will probably see a decline in revenue from these specific titles. For one thing, the category is getting fuller, and certain titles are naturally emerging as favorites among players. So in the case of PUBG MOBILE, for example, we are seeing the result of its publishers finding the right formula to improve monetization, whether through limited time events, battle passes, and other content they didn't have at the beginning. Finally, there is the simple fact that some titles are decreasing in popularity. Not sure what you are seeing in the PC / console segment, but in the case of Fortnite, for example, we can say that its popularity is waning on mobile devices due to the declining spending of the players we are tracking.

Still according to Sensor Tower, the overall revenue boost from games in these categories is unlikely to decline anytime soon, given the expansion of Tencent's Games for Peace in China and the expansion of Fortnite by the end of this year.
