Banking websites are visited by almost 1.7 million Portuguese in the semester

In the first half of this year, 1,681 million users residing in Portugal accessed banking websites, which represents an increase of 2.6 percent compared to the values ​​recorded in the same period last year.

On average, 181 thousand Internet users accessed these types of sites daily in the first six months of the year. In total, more than 451 million pages were visited, that is, 3.7 percentage points less than in the same half of 2006.

The time spent browsing websites homebanking stood at 3.8 million hours, an increase of 10.4 percent compared to the total hours of navigation obtained between June and January last year. Per user, the average daily navigation of 2 hours and 18 minutes per user.

According to Marktest’s accounts, the figures obtained between January and June indicate that 87 percent of Internet users – 1.463 million – access secure bank pages (https).

Throughout the period under review, Caixa Geral de Depósitos sites led in number of unique users and in pages visited. The bank registered the visit of 976 thousand Internet users who browsed 170.7 million pages.

Millennium BCP was the second bank to see its space online be visited more. In the first semester, 760 thousand users were visited and 101 million pages were browsed.

BPI’s sites registered 522 thousand unique users and the visit to 495 million pages, thus occupying the third position in the table. The websites of the banks BES and Santander Totta ranked fourth and fifth, with less than 500 thousand users visited over the period and, finally, in sixth place, the Montepio Geral sites, with 231 thousand different users, that viewed 21 million pages.
