Avid has just released a major update to its digital audio hardware and software platform: Pro Tools 10 has arrived, with a new tool that allows you to separate levels before mixing them, and the Pro Tools | HDX sound PCIe card, bringing five times more processing power, support for up to 64 input / output channels and superior audio recording and mixing quality thanks to a new architecture.
In addition, HDX supports Avid Audio eXtension (AAX) plugins, with a choice for DSP or native formats, while Pro Tools 10 brings improvements to disk management, especially small or networked HDDs. Users will also have new options for track files, will be able to save them in multiple formats and bit depths automatically and will have direct access to the Channel Strip plugin.
Available from November, Pro Tools 10 and HDX can be purchased together for $ 10,000, plus an HD interface. Upgrades from the HD Native card cost $ 7,500, and HD 4 up to $ 6,000. If you only want Pro Tools 10, the purchase costs $ 700, while an upgrade to version 9 costs just $ 300. They require Mac OS X Lion, 2GB of RAM and 15GB of disk space.
