AutoSleep: download the app and monitor your sleep automatically with Apple Watch

One of the most anticipated features in the Apple Watch, and that unfortunately sleep monitoring does not yet exist natively. Therefore, many people prefer to use smart wristbands to monitor sleep automatically. In an attempt to recreate the same experience, developer David Walsh (creator of HeartWatch) launched the app AutoSleep.

AutoSleep app icon. Monitor your sleep.

As the name suggests, AutoSleep automatically monitors sleep, without having to touch any buttons on your Apple Watch before going to sleep, confirming something the next morning or things like that. How is this done? In a combination of advanced heurstics, HealthKit and some frameworks from iOS, the app can monitor motion data from both Watch and iPhone. And with the heart rate sensor on your watch, it is possible to know not only when you slept, but also the quality of your sleep. Incidentally, I don't even need to install any apps on the watch. That's right: note that AutoSleep is not even compatible with watchOS (the iOS app just “pulls” data from the Apple Watch). The only thing you need to do is use Watch while you sleep and, when you wake up, a notification with details sent to your iPhone. It looks magic, doesn't it?

If you read the last sentence and worried about the Watch's battery, I have some great news for you: AutoSleep can monitor your sleep * even without using the watch * at night. How? You just have to put the Watch to charge as soon as you go to sleep and put it back on (or touch your iPhone) as soon as you wake up. In this way, the app will interpret that time as your clear sleep period, ideally (not least because you lose a lot of data like, for example, a heart rate comparison), but still an option.

In order for the application to work according to your own habits, it is advisable that you adjust your preferences as soon as you start the app. All monitoring processes, the times you normally sleep and how much information you would like to see can be adjusted in the settings. In these questions, some negative points pointed out by the MacStories but there is no possibility to configure exceptions (such as holidays or weekends) and there are many other apps that are “easier to move” than him.

In addition to information about moments of rest, quality of sleep, etc., the app shows you your own battery display, that is, how much energy you "recovered" during the last sleep and the last seven days.

If you want to enjoy the app and transform your Apple Watch in a way a tracker of sleep, you can buy AutoSleep on the App Store at a promotional launch price for $ 2 (take advantage, as it is for a limited time).
