Google introduced ARCore 1.0, its augmented reality program, which offers developers the ability to create powerful applications that make the smartphone’s camera smarter.
“It works on more than 100 million devices, on more than a dozen different smartphone models. Now, people can use augmented reality to interact with the world in many inspiring ways, ”says the company.
«Even with a few weeks since launch, developers are already publishing new ARCore experiences on the Play Store.»
In games, augmented reality takes action to the world around the user, making the experience more immersive and unlocking a new way of playing.
Check out the first applications of augmented reality in games, shopping and creativity:
My Tamagotchi Forever – BANDAI NAMCO launched the game My Tamagotchi Forever, an experience where players can create a Tamagotchi while populating TamaTown, a virtual city that can be played in the real world.
Walking Dead Our World – An immersive experience in a zombie apocalypse. The player has the mission to defend the environment when fighting zombies in real world locations. Walking Dead Our World is a great example of how to use the Google Maps APIs and ARCore together to build a game based on location. The game is pre-registered here, with release planned for the second half of 2018.
TendAR – Tender Claws created TendAR, a game that features Guppy, a virtual fish that responds to users’ facial expressions and survives by “eating” other people’s emotions. The game was created by combining ARCore with Google Cloud APIs, which provides computer vision and object recognition. TendAR will be available for download from July 2018.
Augmented reality can help users make smarter business decisions through apps that take users immersed in their own homes.
With the Pottery Barn 360 Room View app, the user can see the furniture in their room to see how it matches the existing decor, change the color and fabric of the furniture before deciding which one looks best and buy the one you chose directly application.
Google has also worked on experiments that show how augmented reality can be used as a new creative medium for self-expression.
Among the apps with this technology is the Just a Line app, which allows you to make simple drawings in AR and share your creation with a short video.

Google also opened the main code for the application so that developers can use it as a starting point for their own ARCore projects.
Anyone with an ARCore-enabled phone can access most of these Play Store experiences now, and developers can start building their own apps today.
