AU university campus receives Siemens research laboratory

COLLAB distinguished with the APDC / Siemens Innovation Award

Siemens will install a research and development center in the telecommunications area on the university campus of the University of Aveiro. The cooperation protocol that guarantees the implementation of the laboratory was signed today and is the result of a relationship that was established between the two parties in November 2002.

For the future laboratory, activities are planned that include the development of advanced research work in the field of optical fiber telecommunications and management platforms, in consortium or through the exchange of researchers from both institutions, namely through Siemens Portugal research grants. .

«With the signing of this protocol, we wrote a new page in the history of the university’s cooperation with industry in Portugal», considers Hélder Castro, general director of Siemens Communications RD1. «This is an initiative that will open doors to new bilateral projects and whose success we all believe in», guarantees in a statement sent to the press.

In the same document, the two entities say they are «aware of the importance of close collaboration between the university and industrial worlds» and of the responsibilities that both assume in the R&D sector in Portugal.
