ATM easier to use on mobile

Sapo opens laboratory at the University of Aveiro

From this Thursday, April 10, it is easier to use the services traditionally available at ATMs, via mobile phone. The possibility results from an agreement signed between the Sociedade Interbancária de Serviços and the three mobile operators, in November, which now bears fruit.

It is now possible to charge the mobile phone from the equipment itself, consult the bank balance, make payment for services, consult the NIB, among other services available at ATMs. Traditional Telemultibanco, made available by the three operators, was less intuitive to use and more restrictive in terms of supported features. Exception for the service provided by Vodafone, which since March of last year already offers a more comprehensive application.

To access the service, customers of the three operators only have to send a text message to the number 12980 with the TMV message and install the application.

In the agreement signed in November, the four entities had already committed themselves to coordinating efforts in the dissemination and promotion of the new service. The first action at this level will be the campaign that kicks off next Monday.

Mobile operators originally launched the Telemultibanco service between 1996 and 1998, with Vodafone moving first. Figures from SIBS indicate that among the three operators in 2002 there were 211 thousand users of the service, a number that last year had dropped to 159 thousand. In 2007, the value of operations carried out in this way was around 16.87 million euros.
