Asus Zenfone 5: Problems and Solutions

Zenfone 5 is an excellent intermediate device, however, as users are acquiring and upgrading the device, problems are appearing on various forums over the internet. We have prepared a selection with the most common problems present in the device. Check out the details in the article below.

1. Call screen with different displays

Zenfone 5 features two types of incoming call options: swipe to answer, and click to answer. Many users complain about the behavior displayed, believing it to be a factory defect. Zenfone 5 displays these two patterns for two different occasions. Check it out below:

 1. Swipe to answer: Appears when the phone is active, that is, available to receive calls.
 2. Click to answer: Displayed when the phone is in use, ie when the incoming call is in the background.

The behavior displayed in the contact photo while receiving the call may also vary. Some users report that the circle displays the picture with animations, and at other times the picture becomes static. This is a common bug in Zenfone 5, which does not interfere with overall system usability. It is expected to be resolved with the official update for Android Lollipop.

2. Battery with charging problem

Zenfone 5 may have a battery problem while charging. It is noted that the percentage of charge will not evolve even after 30 minutes connected to the power source. To avoid this problem, charge your Zenfone 5 for as long as it takes to reach 100% of the battery. According to the user manual (model A501 / page 17), the device is not designed to be connected to the power supply for long periods. Check out the excerpt from the manual below:

"Important: Do not leave your Zenfone 5 connected to the power supply once fully charged. Your Zenfone 5 is not designed to be connected to the power supply for long periods. We recommend that the time exceeded should not exceed one hour after the battery reaches 100%. of cargo. "

<h2 id=3. Problem accessing mobile networks

Version 4.3 Jelly Bean presents a constant problem in connecting Zenfone 5 with mobile networks. Some AndroidPIT forum users have noticed that the device does not connect to the carrier, or simply has an unavailable signal.

This is a common problem with devices running this version, so upgrade your Zenfone 5 to Lollipop if you haven't already.

After the upgrade, if the problem persists, manually configure the preferred network that will be used on the device by default. Settings> More> Mobile Networks> Network Operators> Choose Manually. Select your carrier from the list and restart the device.

<h2 id=4. Battery charges without being connected

There are reports of users who plugged the device into the computer's USB port, and when removed, the battery remained in charging status. Even after a few hours disconnected, the same information is displayed on the battery icon.

This problem may be caused by using non-genuine USB cables. The device behaves differently when connected to the computer, and the use of secondary cables may interfere with Zenfone 5 commands.

We recommend that the device be restarted, and after this procedure the indicated percentage should be normalized. If this does not happen, take the device to authorized service, as the cable used may have caused oxidation of the USB port.

Zenfone 5 has a bug with the audio of incoming calls that inexplicably get low. The solution is very simple: make a test call, and as soon as you hear the first tone of the call turn the volume up to the maximum with the physical button. When the contact answers your call, perform this procedure again and turn up the volume to maximum.

<h2 id=6. Microphone issue

I myself had a problem with a Zenfone 5 unit, more precisely on the device's microphone. After upgrading from 4.3 Jelly Bean for Android KitKat, the first calls are gone without audio.

This issue can be resolved by resetting application preferences and removing data stored on the standard dialer. Follow the steps below:

 1. Access device settings menu
 2. Select the "Apps" option and then locate the "All" tab.
 3. Locate and select the "Asus Calling Screen" app and click on the "Clear Data" option
 4. Once that is done, go back to the "Apps" tab and select the three dots in the upper right corner and click "Reset app preferences"

After completing the steps listed above, you must restart the phone to make the first test call. If the problem persists, it may be appropriate to have the device serviced by an authorized service representative for possible microphone repair.

Keep in mind that these are not widespread problems, only some models of Zenfone 5 are experiencing any of these errors. So if you have Zenfone 5 and the device has been having the same problem, let us know in the comments below.
