The Portuguese Software Association – ASSOFT – will intensify the fight against computer piracy in Portugal through a new campaign with companies and other entities. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among users and organizations about the need to legalize the software used internally.

Despite not making public the details of the initiative, Manuel Cerqueira, president of ASSOFT, guarantees that the campaign is «very strong and will have a strong impact on companies and their managers».

At the same time, the association is carrying out new training actions with its partners, including government agencies and business associations, in order to elucidate them on this subject that has affected the computer industry both nationally and internationally.

In June, ASSOFT revealed some figures referring to the national situation regarding hacking, indicating that more than half of the programs installed last year in Portugal were pirated. This situation led to losses in the order of 112 million euros, in addition to the 23.5 million euros that the State failed to collect in direct taxes.
