As expected, tests show modest performance gains on the new MacBooks Air

Yesterday's upgrade on the MacBooks Air it was nice, but evidently it doesn't compare to what we detailed just now, about Macs Pro. Fortunately they are already on sale in Brazil and they do bring some cool news.

To recap the changes: battery that “lasts all day”, fourth generation Intel Core i5 / i7 processors (“Haswell”) with HD Graphics 5000, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, flash memories up to 45% faster and a system with two microphones .

But what does that mean in performance?

New MacBooks Air at Primate Labs

The chart above already contains preliminary Geekbench tests, compiled by the staff of Primate Labs. The tool, it is worth noting, is very focused on processing and memory performance.

As expected, the new Airs provide average performance gains ranging from 3% to 8%. That's because Intel has focused so much on reducing the power consumption of these new chips, instead of significantly increasing their performance. At the same time, with a view to greater autonomy, Apple has reduced clocks line processors from 1.7GHz to 1.3GHz and 2.0GHz to 1.7GHz.

To interested parties, the AnandTech also performed other tests with these new MacBooks Air.
