This week PT announced that it would end the portability agreements it had with other operators, in order to simplify the customer portability process. For the avoidance of doubt, the Telecommunications Operators Association now comes to ensure that all customers can keep the phone number when they switch operators.
Number portability is one of the most important factors for competition in the fixed and mobile communications market, allowing for a change of operator without the customer being obliged to change numbers. Assoaicção thus recalls that the possibility of carrying the number «constitutes a right of customers with the express consecration in the law».
Without ever making any reference to PT in its communication, Apritel commits itself to continue promoting the improvement of processes between operators so that customers have the least possible inconvenience when changing operators.
This is, however, one of the subjects that has been most controversial in terms of competition in the market. Despite new portability rules that have been in place since the beginning of March, there are still reports of complaints from customers cheated in the process and who need to wait weeks to see the situation resolved.
