Do you have an iPad and are sad that we still don’t have access to the iBookstore in Brazil, preventing you from buying beautiful illustrated books for your children? Or are you one of those who always wanted to create their iBooks for themselves on iPad, but don’t know where to start?

Whatever your answer, there is now an app on the App Store that allows you to easily create your own digital illustrated books, directly on the iPad. It’s the Book Creator for iPad, from Red Jumper Studio.

The app is really impressive, as it’s too easy to create your own illustrated iBook.

For those who do not know the technical details, a quick explanation: the illustrated iBook differs slightly from the «normal» iBook, mainly in formatting. Both are in format ePub (standard in the digital book industry), but the illustrated one has its pages with background images, which makes it less practical on small screens. Generally, iBooks that are not illustrated have text with a layout that adapts to the size of the screen, which makes them readable on both iPad and iPhone. Picture books can be opened on the iPhone or iPod touch, but reading is hampered by the font size.

Like Book Creator, you can create personalized picture books, ideal for children. The only thing that is done outside the iPad, if you want something more elaborate, are the images to be used. But once they are imported to the tablet, everything else happens directly on it.

All the tools are literally at your fingertips. You can use images in the iPad’s photo library to place the pages as a background image. Then just place the text where you want, with the desired color, size and type. The formatting options are quite varied, allowing you to do just about anything with the application.

When it’s ready, you can open it directly on your device’s iBooks, or email it to someone. It can also open in other compatible applications, including the Dropbox (if you have it installed on the iPad) by uploading your artwork to the cloud.

In fact, if you ever have the opportunity to publish the book on the iBookstore, know that the application already creates a perfectly compatible ePub file ready for the Apple store. Perfect for freelance writers. ?
