Rumors about an Apple rival to Amazon Echo are on fire. The rumor came with the idea of a new dedicated Siri device, but yesterday it was said that it could actually be a new generation of Apple TV.
No matter which way Apple goes, sources from CNET today revealed another potential feature of this product: a built-in camera, with facial recognition technology.
The apparatus would be able to identify the person in the environment and adjust their settings according to their tastes, for example by lighting and playing music corresponding to the preferences of the individual.
However, this idea also clashes with the idea of the assistant being on television. For the camera to be able to "see" people, the device would have to be in a rather "privileged" position in the house and hidden in a shelf, for example. Besides, a camera there would surely widen the eyes of paranoids for privacy.
Still according to CNET, the new hardware could hit the market by the end of this year, but it is probably only for 2017. This is if Apple's plans don't change or are even discarded, of course.
