Apple wins patent for Mini DisplayPort

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (US Patent and Trademark Office) granted Apple the patent on the Mini DisplayPort connector. The mini connector was created by the Cupertino firm to be used in devices that have little space (such as notebooks) and offers complete support for the standard created by VESA for the DisplayPort protocol.

The Mini DisplayPort was introduced by Apple on its computers with the launch of MacBooks and MacBooks Pro unibody in October 2008. Since then, the standard has been licensed free of charge to other manufacturers and adopted by VESA itself as an ultra-compact standard for DisplayPort.
