Let’s go, then.

«Greyhound»

Attention broadcasters from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (yes, that of the Oscars): Apple has just acquired quite a medallion for its domains – the war drama «Greyhound», starring and scripted by Tom Hanks («Forrest Gump»).

Directed by Aaron Schneider, «Greyhound» protagonist Ernest Krause (Hanks), commander of the United States Navy who needs to lead the crew of a destroyer in the first months of the country’s participation in World War II – while dealing with his own demons and self-defense problems. confidence. The film mixes psychological drama with great action scenes, in the vein of traditional (and so loved) war films hollywoodians.

«Greyhound» is an original production by Sony Pictures, and was scheduled to open in theaters next June; with the new Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), however, the release of the film was postponed and Sony decided to sell its rights to a streaming. Then, a real battle for the acquisition of the feature began – won, in the end, by Apple. According to deadline, Apple paid more than $ 70 million for the exclusive rights of the film.

Check out the production trailer, released before the postponement of its debut (and subsequent sale to Apple TV +):

The acquisition of «Greyhound» represents Apple’s biggest carat film effort to date, and puts Apple on the Oscar 2021 – especially considering that, exceptionally in next year’s edition, the Academy will accept films released only by streaming, without distribution in cinemas.

There is still no information on when the film will arrive on Apple TV +, but we will obviously keep an eye out. Excited?
