Apple TV + has new hires, but misses “Foundation” showrunner

THE Apple TV + it is fast becoming one of the busiest divisions in Apple, with constant inflows and outflows from professionals in the most diverse areas. We recently had two major hires for the service – at the same time that we saw a significant departure for one of the platform’s series.

Molly Thompson

The first recent hiring, as noted by Variety, was that of Molly Thompson, important name of the documentaries that arrives at Apple precisely to command the production of this type of content.

Thompson is the founder of A&E Indie Films, a documentary division of A + E Networks; there, she performed the same role as she will work at Apple and was the executive responsible for high caliber projects such as “Murderball”, “Life, Animated” and “City of Ghosts”.

There is still no information about films or documentary series that Apple will produce under Thompson’s command – we will certainly hear more about these future projects soon.

Danielle DePalma

Meanwhile, as reported by the deadline, another important name lands on Apple TV +, but for a very different area: we are talking about Danielle DePalma, a professional who will act as a senior executive in the marketing of films and series on the platform.

Danielle DePalma, head of marketing for Apple TV +

DePalma has long experience in the field: she is leaving a position of executive vice president for digital marketing at Lionsgate – company in which he spent the last decade and supervised campaigns for franchises such as “Hunger Games” and “Kick-ass”.

At Apple, she will report to executive Chris van Amburg, head of the video marketing division, and will be tasked with promoting Apple’s original films and series on other platforms. In a world dominated by Netflix, it will be interesting to know what strategies Apple will adopt to achieve this.

Josh Friedman

Two arrivals, one way out: as I brought the Hollywood Reporter, Apple lost Josh Friedman, which would be one of showrunners of your science fiction epic “Foundation”.

According to information, the screenwriter left the series, based on the famous books by Isaac Asimov, in a friendly atmosphere. The position of showrunner will now be played only by David S. Goyer (co-writer of the trilogy “The Dark Knight”), but the script, written in four hands by Friedman and Goyer, will be maintained. Friedman will also maintain his position as executive producer, but will no longer participate in the day-to-day production.

The departure does not seem to have affected the schedule of the series, which is still kept under wraps – it was not even one of the productions highlighted by Apple at its event last month, perhaps because it is still in very early stages of production. We hope that we don’t have more stones in the way, since the adaptation promises.
