Apple TV 2015 (4th generation) is now called “Apple TV HD”

Apple changed the name of a product today. The “old” Apple TV is now called “Apple TV HD”.

For the avoidance of doubt, the change refers only to the 2015 model, fourth generation; Apple TV 4K, launched in 2017, still has the same name as always – with that, the line even gets a more intuitive nomenclature, with one HD model and the other 4K.

This does not take away the fact that Apple has created a great deal of confusion between their product names: we now have a product and a service, both called Apple TV – I mean, of course, the black box and the application that is the “center” of it, but it is not restricted to it.

We hope that, over time, Apple will be able to differentiate well (or, alternatively, merge) the two nominations so that there is no doubt among consumers.
