Apple to attend White House meeting to discuss terrorism issues

Meetings orchestrated by White House involving company representatives is not uncommon. We have already reported here, for example, that Steve Jobs participated in one of these. In 2015, Tim Cook attended both the cyber summit and a dinner with the Chinese president.

Now, some of Apple, together with representatives of other companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google, will participate in another such meeting, this time focusing on the recent terrorist attacks that took place in Paris (France) and San Bernardino (California, USA).

Contrary to what was imagined, the central theme of the meeting is not about privacy and the use of encryption in messaging services or something like that, but about content in social media. The idea, according to Reuters, discuss ways to make it more difficult for militants / terrorists to recruit and mobilize followers on social media, as well as help common users to create, publish and amplify content that can undermine groups like the Islamic State.

The meeting will also talk about how technology can be used to end possible signs of violent radicalization, identify recruitment patterns and facilitate the lives of governments and intelligence agencies in identifying these militant agents.

After the meeting, the White House is expected to make some kind of statement.
