Apple Store in Arizona wins design award; store in Sydney will close in January

The latest news about the Apple stores around the world bring a very important news to the company: the design of the Apple Scottsdale Fashion Square, Arizona, was awarded in an important contest of the American newspaper The Architect’s Newspaper, as we will see below.

In addition, the Apple sydney (in Australia) close next month for a major makeover. By contrast, another company location in Toronto (Canada) will be reopened this week. See also the photos of the reopening of the Apple hillsdalein California.

Apple Store in Arizona Wins Design Award

As we said, the Apple Scottsdale Fashion Square won a major design award from the newspaper The Architect’s Newspaper, one of the most prominent vehicles of architecture in the USA.

The Apple Store in question has some details that even differentiate it from other Ma stores, such as a ceiling with circle cutouts and a small "square" open to the environment. The publishers of Architect’s Newspaper also highlighted the choice of these design features:

Arizona's desert environment requires a distinctive approach to protecting Apple's iconic glazing system. The inner ceiling extends to act as an external shading device, establishing visual connections and reducing the distinction between indoor and outdoor environments. Designed from a cantilver at a remarkable distance from the building's facade, the sunshade exhibits structural slimness. This simple and elegant frame, combined with the store's low height, results in a unique and humble building.

Until then, Ma competed with a French luxury brand retail unit. Christian dior which often squanders wealth at its Chicago retail outlets and a shopping center in Springfield, Missouri.

Store in Sydney close in January

The Cupertino giant recently announced that its flagship store in Sydney, Australia, will be closed temporarily on January 5, 2020 to receive "creative updates," namely: being refurbished.

Apple Sydney retirement notice

The store opened in June 2008 and is the company's first unit in Australia. Since then, the company has not made any major changes to the point, and considering Apple Store renovations in recent years, the revamped Apple Sydney was more than expected.

During the makeover period, customers will be able to shop at Apple Bondi or then Apple Broadway outside Sydney. There is no prediction of how long the reforms will last, but of course this could take months.

Apple Eaton Center reopening date

Last week we reported that the Apple Eaton Center will be reopened (after a change and consequent expansion) this month. Now we know exactly when this happens: on the day December 14th, next Saturday at 9am in the local time.

The date had already been speculated earlier, but Apple had just to confirm the news. As with other renovations and reopenings, the new Apple Eaton Center has a Video wall, one Forum and other new company design elements. The store also has stone walls and a Terrazzo-lined floor to match.

We also reported last week that the reopening of the Apple hillsdalein California would take place last Saturday, 7/12 and it did! Here are some images of Ma's new (and relocated) unit in the San Francisco Bay Area:

Apple took advantage of the change to naturally redesign the store. The place now has a glass and stone façade that matches the aesthetics of the shopping center courtyard. Inside there are new service and sales stalls (such as the Genius groove) seen in other units, combining all this with a new space for the sessions of the Today at Apple is Video wall.

As always, everything is very neat. Did you like it?
