Apple settles and ends legal disputes involving OpenTV

Last March we reported that Apple had lost a battle against OpenTV in a German court, Ma was accused of infringing patents on streaming (related to the supply and storage of digital content for electronic devices) of the company.

At the time, we spoke:

The decision, in a way, pressures Apple to seek a licensing agreement with the Kudelski Group. Ma can simply remove / deactivate the features that use OpenTV patents, but this is likely to interfere with the operation of the products themselves. Thus, the worst scenario is the withdrawal of products from the local market (iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, iTunes, QuickTime, etc.).

Wake up

Well guess what happened! Yes, Apple entered into an agreement with OpenTV, as the Kudelski Group (owner of OpenTV) announced today.

In the statement, the group said it had made a global patent license agreement with Apple and that, because of it, all pending patent disputes were ruled out. The financial terms of the agreement, however, were not disclosed.

In addition to the German dispute, OpenTV had sued Apple also in the USA for the infractions. All of that, now, past.
