Apple releases universal search for more fourth generation Apple TV channels

When the Fourth generation Apple TV was presented, Ma demonstrated its universal search, which allows users to call Siri (or type) to search for certain content in all applications installed on the set-top box. At the time of launch, the apps available to access this feature were just the iTunes Store, Netflix, Hulu, SHOWTIME / Anytime and HBO GO / NOW. As soon as new applications were developed for tvOS, what was expected was that the “universality” of the research was present, which did not happen.

Not exactly at the speed expected by the developers but still, happening, Apple has made this feature available little by little for more apps.

Comedy Central Apple tv universal search

Joining those who already have universal search (PBS, PBS Kids, FOXNOW, FXNOW and Nat Geo TV), the most recent channels that support the feature are: ABC, A&E, Bravo, CBS, Comedy Central, Cooking Channel, Disney Channel, Disney Jr, Disney XD, DIY, E !, Food Network, FYI, HGTV, History, MTV, NBC, Starz, Syfy, Travel Channel, USA and VH1.

According to an Apple support article, the list above encompasses all channels available in the United States (unsurprisingly); in Germany, Australia, Canada, France and the UK, only Netflix is available in addition to iTunes search. Elsewhere, not even Netflix is inside!

For now, we will have to continue waiting to be awarded. 😢
