Apple releases Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 Update v.1.1, Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.2 and SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0

Apple has just released a batch of varied updates, check details on each below.

Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 Update v.1.1 (978MB)

Mac OS X Server

Leopard was updated to version 10.5.8 at the beginning of the month, and on that occasion Mac OS X Server also won the update. This did not become 10.5.9, but an “update update”, believe it or not.

Recommended for all Leopard Server users, Mac OS X 10.5.8 features fixes in the following areas:

  • Reliability of AFP file services and Time Machine backups;
  • Propagating system file permissions;
  • Keeping the user's password history;
  • Guarantee of consistent VPN output regardless of load;
  • Spotlight indexing and memory consumption;
  • Resolves a duplicate serial number alert for servers with multiple network interfaces.

More information can be obtained in this Apple support article. The same update is also available in a Combo package.

Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.2 (2.4MB)

Mac mini

Improves compatibility with the latest Apple memory kits on Macs mini and requires Mac OS X 10.5.7 or higher. More details on Apple's EFI firmware updates can be obtained here.

SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0 (18.35MB)

MacBook Air SuperDrive

The update eliminates the noise made by optical drives during system startup or return from mode sleep on Macs. It works with iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.4 and Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.2 (the one above), and also requires Mac OS X 10.5.7 or higher.
