Apple releases iOS 8 - Learn how to update

After months of waiting, the latest version of iOS is finally on the air. Learn how to update and other important information.

After several betas and tests with developers, iOS is ready for users. However, before talking about all the new features of the system, let’s talk about some precautions you should take in order to have a smooth and smooth transition.

First, don’t need desperation to update now!

That’s because, like you, the other millions and millions of users are also desperate to update ? and, as good as Apple’s servers are, there is a high chance that they will become overloaded and their update will go wrong.

Of course, if this happens, your iPhone will not «die», but you will have an extra headache to get the device to work again, so calm down and wait until night or tomorrow to update. I, for example, tried to download it through iTunes a few times and couldn’t – but then it worked.

In case you have already tried to update and your website has gone wrong, calm down and we’ll talk about it soon too. But, if you have already gone wrong and are in a hurry, look for the solution on Google because the process is really simple (basically, do a hard reset or restore your iTunes backup).

Now, let’s go to other important topics

1 – Compatibility

Do you already know if your device is compatible with iOS 8? See the list below:

  • iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPad 2, iPad 3rg gen, iPad 4th gen, iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad mini with Retina display
  • iPod touch 5th gen

So, if you have the iPhone 4, you should already know that iOS 8 is not compatible.

I’ll talk about this later, in another matter, but if you have the iPhone 4S, I don’t recommend upgrading to iOS 8. This is because there are several points to note. The main one concerns performance: the iPhone 4S is already an old device, in a way old, and iOS 8, although compatible, was made with several features that require more powerful hardware, so you will have a huge pain head because the phone must be slow. The same goes for the iPad 2. And I say more, the process is irreversible.

What to do before

You should take some simple precautions before upgrading your iPhone or iPad to iOS 8. Basically, it is important to back up your data on iCloud / iTunes, so that, in case something goes wrong, you can recover everything smoothly.

How to update

OTA – Over the Air: using the device itself

When it’s time for you to update, the process is very simple. After taking the precautions mentioned before, just go to “Settings> General> Software Update”.

Important: you need to have a few free GB on the device to perform the update, and it must be connected to Wi-Fi. The download is 1.3 GB, and it is good to leave it plugged in.

ITunes Update

An alternative way is using iTunes. Connect your iDevice to your computer, open iTunes and click «Check for Update», as in the image (my system is in English, but it is the same button;).

From iTunes I think it’s safer, because you have the option to just download the update, and then install it.

I updated, what now?

First, it is recommended that you perform a hard reset after performing the update. With this, you clear the cache and free up more space, you will have a «restart» and the device will be faster. Another advantage is that, you must have that bunch of apps that you don’t even use, but feel sorry to delete, or think that in the future you will use, etc. In the end, you don’t use it and the business stays there taking up space. When you do the reset, these apps will go away, and you will be able to download only the most useful things.

In the coming days we will also see several apps being updated in the App Store, which take advantage of the new features of iOS 8, so we will give you tips with the best apps for the new system.
