Apple releases graphics update for iMacs and update for professional video formats

Apple today released a graphical update for iMacs. The update fixes an issue that could crash the computer when viewing certain very large images in JPEG format.

iMac Retina 5K

The update is available for the following models:

  • iMac (Retina 5K, 27 inch, Late 2014)
  • iMac (21.5 inches, late 2013)
  • iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)

This week Apple also released an update (2.0.1) for professional video formats, adding support for the following codecs:

  • Apple Intermediate Codec
  • Apple ProRes
  • AVC-Intra
  • DVCPRO HD
  • HDV
  • XDCAM EX / HD / HD422
  • MPEG IMX
  • Uncompressed 4: 2: 2

In addition, the update includes support for the MXF format (EXchange Format Material) for native import, editing and sharing in Final Cut Pro X and Motion, presets shared by Compressor and OP1a export.

The update is also available via the Apple website or the Mac App Store.
