Apple releases EFI firmware update for newly released MacBooks Pro

Apple today released a minor update to the EFI firmware on its MacBooks Pro. Version 1.7 corrects a minor change to the SATA specification for 13 and 15 inch hard drives released during WWDC ’09.

As Apple had not previously offered and qualified these hard drives in its notebooks, the use of this specification does not support transfer speeds greater than 1.5Gbps, the standard it supports. This update promises to give the new MacBooks Pro their full transfer speed from 3Gbps to SATA drives, which should eliminate some complaints regarding compliance with the official specifications for these products.

More details and complete instructions on installing the update should be read in this article. After you are aware of the procedure to be followed, download the disk image with the installation package from the Apple download site.
