Apple Pencil may gain new handwriting recognition capabilities on iPadOS 14

In yet another block of code from iOS / iPadOS 14 analyzed by MacRumors, it turned out that Apple would also be working on good news for its pencil and the framework PencilKit.

According to the guys, it’s possible that the Apple Pencil gains new handwriting recognition on iPadOS 14, à la Newton, allowing users to write on the screen and the system automatically converts the handwriting.

This would be available throughout the system, just by touching a text field – including third party apps – for the function to be activated.

The capacity would be a kind of expansion of the optical character recognition system (OCR) that already exists on iOS / iPadOS and allows, for example, that we search for content of images scanned by the Notes app.

In the same way that the system can interpret handwritten texts, the codes also contain references to a similar resource for drawings, called «Magic Fill». Then it may be possible, for example, to sketch a square with the pencil and it will automatically be interpreted as a perfect editable shape.

Remember that all these codes come from a leaked version of iOS 14 that was compiled in December last year, so there is no certainty that they will be part of its official release in a few months.
