Apple Pay virtual wallet arrives in Brazil in the coming months

Apple Pay, Apple’s digital wallet, will land in Brazil «in the coming months», according to Chief Executive Tim Cook. He confirmed the arrival of the service during the announcement of Apple’s financial results this Thursday (1st). It is expected that the debut of the payment service for iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad will take place soon. With this, Brazil will be the first country in Latin America to receive the novelty.

However, there are not many details about a specific date yet – the material only says that Apple Pay will be available within the next few months. The service gained a page in Portuguese within the Apple website, which signals that we are close to an official announcement.

Apple Pay was one of the first digital wallets for smartphones to be launched. The service debuted in 2014 in the United States, with the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. With it it is possible to register debit and credit cards and pay bills using the NFC, all you need to do is bring the cell phone close to the machine. Validation is done by Touch ID, or by Face ID, in the case of iPhone X.

It works with iPhones from the 6th generation, including the iPhone SE, Apple Watch and iPads with the digital reader. It is also possible to use the service in Safari for Mac, by communicating with the iPhone, or natively on the MacBook Pro with Touch ID, introduced in 2016.

There is still no confirmation on the compatible banks, but the Brazilian Apple Pay page gives some clues. In the photos there are only cards from Itaú bank, which reinforces the thesis that, at least in the beginning, the digital wallet of the apple will be exclusive for customers of the financial institution. There is an expectation that it will work only on Personnalité and Uniclass premium accounts. The only confirmed information is the card banner: Visa and Mastercard.

Apple Pay arrives in the country late. Samsung Pay has been available here since 2016, while Android Pay arrived in Brazil in November last year.

There are still many doubts about the rules of Apple Pay in Brazil. In addition, there is also no information on the number of establishments that must accept the type of payment. Only two online stores appear on the website: Magazine Luiza and Petlove.
