Apple orders new comedy and fills cast of space science fiction series

If you are following the news of “Apple Studios” (nickname we gave to the service of streaming of the company's original video content), so you should know that Ma already has several titles of different genres which are in the contracting phase or even in production.

Nevertheless, the company continues to invest heavily in new series and big names in Hollywood to compose its catalog of original titles.

Apple ordered yet another scripted comedy, with half an hour episodes, to be starring by the actors Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, as disclosed by Variety. Despite not having an official name released yet, the series should be set in a video game creation studio. McElhenney and Day will also be responsible for the script and production of the series.

This is not their first job together. Since 2005, McElhenney and Day act side by side on the show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. McElhenney co-created the series that is already heading towards the launch of the tenth season, expected for the next month. Originally, the comedy aired on FX, but was moved to the FXX in season eight.

Behind the scenes, the Apple series will be produced by the recently announced venture between Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment, in collaboration with video game publisher Ubisoft.

At the end of last year, still among the first titles of original series produced by Apple, we commented on the scientific fiction developed by the writer and producer Ronald D. Moore responsible for Battlestar Galactica, Helix and Outlander. Now, the main cast of the series has started to be filled, also according to the Variety.

Among the names published by the magazine are Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman and Sarah Jones. The show that takes place in a world where the global space race never ended has Kinnaman playing Edward Baldwin, one of NASA's top astronauts. Dorman and Jones were cast as Gordo and Tracy Stevens, a prominent NASA couple.

Kinnaman is already set in the world of science fiction: recently the actor participated in the first season of the Netflix series, "Altered Carbon". He is also known to other roles on American television, such as "House of Cards" and "The Killing". The list also includes some films, such as "Suicide Square", "RoboCop (2014)" and "Hanna".

Dorman currently stars in the series "Patriot", from Amazon, whose second season is set to debut later this year. The actor also known for Australian programs "Wonderland" and “The Secret Life of Us”. In cinema, Dorman's participation includes the films "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Promises of War" and "The Specialists".

Jones, meanwhile, recently starred in the drama "Damnation" and also played a prominent role in the pilot episode of LA Confidentialearlier this year. Other appearances by the actress on television include the titles “Alcatraz”, "Texas Rising" and "The Path".

The series, created and written by Moore with Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, does not yet have an official name or a set release date.
