Apple opens Arcade testing program for employees

Presented last March, the Apple Arcade is one of the new Apple services that will be launched later this year for iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TVs. In short, the platform will offer a variety of games to users from a monthly subscription, something like a streaming of games.

Even though Apple released a lot of information about its thriving service, it was not yet possible to view it in its glory – until now. Recently, Apple opened an internal Arcade testing program for its employees, in which a subscription fee of US $ 0.50 per month is charged, the first being free, as disclosed by the Brazilian developer Guilherme Rambo.

It is important to note that the amount currently charged by Apple to employees who are testing the service will not reflect the price of the subscription that will be offered to the general public when Apple Arcade is released. It is a fact that the service should cost a good change, since all games will not include advertising and will be exclusive to the Apple platform.

Apple Arcade on the Mac App Store

There aren’t many surprises in the Apple Arcade’s look; on macOS, the platform tab is located inside the Mac App Store (just like the App Store) and, like the rest of the app store, Arcade games are available by categories. To download a title, just click on the “Get” button, as if you were purchasing any other app.

Visually, the biggest difference between the Apple Arcade and the rest of the App Store is the service’s emphasis on games, just below the art of publicity, including: age rating, category, remote control support, languages and size. In addition, other information (such as the game description) and previews are displayed similarly to the App Store.

Check out the description of some of the games currently featured on Apple Arcade below:

  • Way of the Turtle: play as two curious lost turtles on a cursed island in the middle of nowhere. Obtain ammunition containing special powers, such as shells, and attack to defeat enemies and overcome different challenges.
  • Down in Bermuda: adventurous aviator Milton left his beloved wife and daughter to travel across the Atlantic on his life’s journey.
  • Hot Lava: Hot Lava transports you back to your childhood imagination. Relive moments of excitement, joy and chaos. Run, jump, climb and surf in first person in environments full of nostalgia flooded by molten lava.

According to Rambo, most games are still in development, which means that there is still work for most developers who will be launching new games on the platform.

Therefore, there is still no prediction of when the Apple Arcade will be released, but the internal test should end when iOS 13 is launched in September, which points to a possible window for launching the service.
