Apple now sells the Afterburner card for the Mac Pro separately

In another novelty released silently today, this one is much more specific, Apple is now selling the card Afterburner of the new Mac Pro separately.

Its price is exactly the same as professionals pay when they include one in the machine configuration: $ 2,000 in the United States, R $ 20,000 in Brazil. This value, it must be said, has just been readjusted; at the launch of the Mac Pro, it was R $ 16,000.

Created to transform the workflow of film and video professionals, Afterburner accelerates codecs ProRes and ProResRAW video files in FinalCutProX, QuickTimePlayerX and compatible third-party apps. Afterburner, a PCIExpress card exclusive to the MacPro, can be installed in any full-length slot, but provides maximum performance in slots PCIex16.

The Afterburner card can be used, of course, with the new Mac Pro and occupies one of its eight slots PCI Express.

The news is interesting because it no longer requires those interested in the card to spend this extra the moment they purchase the Mac Pro. The upgrade, now, can be done whenever they want.
