Apple now has a director designated specifically for the Greater China region

Apple today announced the appointment of Isabel Ge Mahe, its vice president of wireless technologies, as its newest vice president and director of the region of Greater China, specifically.

Ge Mahe, who will take up the new position in Shanghai in the summer of the northern hemisphere, will manage Apple's business in mainland China and also in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams.

"Apple is strongly committed to investing and growing in China, and we are happy that Isabel brings her experience and leadership to our Chinese team," said Cook. "She has devoted much of her time in recent years to delivering innovation for the benefit of Apple consumers in China, and we look forward to making even greater contributions under her leadership."

The executive had led Apple's software engineering teams focused on wireless technologies for nine years, including cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, location and movement, and that across all of Ma's product lines. She also participated in the development Apple Pay, HomeKit and CarPlay.

In China, specifically, Ge Mahe has worked with Apple's R&D (research and development) team and with partners in cell phone operators to develop features such as the native QR code reader that comes with iOS 11, preventing SMS fraud and even make it possible to use phone numbers as Apple IDs.

"I am honored to have this opportunity to represent Apple in China and to work more closely with our incredibly talented team," said Ge Mahe. “Everyone at Apple is proud of the contributions we make to the communities where we do business, and I’m excited to deepen the connection of our teams with consumers, the government and business in China in order to advance innovation and sustainability.”

All luck to Isabel in the new position!
