Apple Music Awards awards Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Lil Nas X in its 1st edition [atualizado: show ao vivo]

What artists Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Lil Nas X have in common? In addition to large hits, they are now the first winners of the Apple Music Awards, a new musical award offered by Apple.

The Apple Music Awards has five categories: Artist of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Composer of the Year, Best Album of the Year and Song of the Year. The winners of the first three are selected by the Apple Music editorial team, who filter out artists “truly passionate about their craft”.

Meanwhile, the winners of the last two categories are defined based on data from streaming and reflect what Apple Music users heard (repeatedly) in 2019.

Apple, of course, would not make an award without a… prize (and that would match the design and quality of its products).

Thus, the Apple Music Award itself is made of a silicon disk, produced from the same process that gives rise to the microprocessors of iPhones and iPads. This piece is surrounded by two parts of polished glass and inserted in a machined and anodized aluminum body.

Apple will celebrate the first edition of the Apple Music Awards with an exclusive performance by Billie Eilish on Steve Jobs Theater, at Apple Park. The event will be broadcast live around the world tomorrow (4/12), at 11:30 pm (Brasília time), through the Apple website (and probably also via Apple TVs).

Here’s what the company says about the novelty:

The best and most daring musicians of 2019 deserve a tribute as innovative and creative as they are: we present the Apple Music Award to everyone. Built from the same laser-shaped silicon parts that power Apple’s microprocessors, this award represents an exclusive thanks to the artists and their creations, which spawned new trends and won over the public all year round. Congratulations to the first group of winners in the five categories: the teenage prodigy and her indispensable collaborator who used anxiety as an inspiration for the album to become a global phenomenon; a rap star and soul who redefined the terms and image of pop stardom; in addition to the home video that became a viral sensation on the internet and nothing less than one of the biggest singles of all time. Check out the first Apple Music Award winners, explore their music and stories and return on December 4 at 11:30 pm (GMT) for a live performance directly from the Steve Jobs Theater in California with our Artist of the Year.

The company reports that the Apple Music collection today comprises more than 60 million tracks.
