Apple Music: 13 Tips You Need to Know

Apple Music is the music streaming service competing with Google Play Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Pandora, among others. With it, iOS and Mac users have access to over 50 million songs to listen to on iPhone, iPad, MacBook and even Apple's smartwatch.

In addition to providing a clean and intuitive interface, Apple Music also brings a number of convenient features to its users. To help you get the most out of the app, we've brought you the top tips you need to know about Apple Music, check it out, and find out how to improve your experience.

1. Start using the like button

To start with our list, if you still didn't use the “like” or “dislike” buttons, it's time to understand why it's worth using them.

When you're exploring new music or albums by artists suggested by Apple Music and finding a song you like or dislike, or want to rate the album as a whole, just click the three-dot button () and then the bottom of the screen. Find two heart shaped buttons as shown in the image below.

Selecting your opinion about music or album helps Apple Music identify your preferences and tastes, which serves to increase the quality of future suggestions. It also helps prevent unwanted music from being presented as a suggestion.

2. Customize your library

Your Apple Music library has several sub-menus, such as “Playlists,” “Artists,” and more. However, these are not the only options available, and indeed, it is even possible to change the sequence as they appear in the application interface.

To do this, simply open your library and then click the "Edit" button as indicated by the red arrow below.

Customize your library

On the next screen, you can check and uncheck which categories you want to track (arrow 1) and also easily reposition them by dragging through the buttons pointed by arrow 2. At the end, just click “Ok” (arrow 3).

Ready! With this you can customize your library as you prefer.

3. Discover new music and artists

If you're in the mood for new bands, musicians, ensembles or just new songs that fit your profile, this is possible through the “For you” tab in Apple Music. It can be accessed from the menu at the bottom of the screen, next to the "Library" button.

When you access it, to discover new artists, simply click on your image in the app as you can identify in the image below.

On the next screen, you will see some options and, among them, the button “Choose your artists”. Use it to select multiple musicians and help Apple Music find out which music genres you like best.

4. Remember to rate radios

As well as letting you know whether or not you liked music or albums you listened to on Apple Music, you can also rate the available radios in the app. To do this, it's as simple as we presented in the first tip of this content.

Similarly, this also helps the app identify trends and tastes, improving the quality of suggestions.

5. Enjoy the random buttons and repeat

When listening to albums, Apple Music defaults to the random play option by default, ie it does not follow the sequence of songs as recorded in the album. In some cases this may not be ideal, especially when different songs connect.

Fortunately, adjust this very simply. On the album screen, simply press and drag up to bring up the menu where you can check out the next songs, as well as identify the two buttons below.

Enjoy Shuffle and Repeat

The first, “Shuffle”, on the left, is the button that determines whether the songs will be played randomly or in sequence. Meanwhile, the right button, “Repeat”, marks if you would like the songs to be repeated after they played at least once.

With the repeat button unchecked, even at random no music will be played again. Already marked with it, this is possible, which allows you to listen to the same song more than once and the album to keep playing infinitely.

6. Add photos to your playlists

A great way to identify your playlists is to simply name them by inserting a photo. With Apple Music, creating a playlist is a breeze and inserting a photo into it is even easier.

First, simply go to the "Playlists" category in your library. From this you can create them by clicking on the “New Playlist…” button. Then simply tap the photo icon, as pointed out by the red arrow in the image below to select a photo or image on your device.

Here, tap the three dots button () and then after viewing the window that opens while doing so, select “Share Playlist…”

8. Check the lyrics of your songs

A really cool feature of Apple Music is the ability to find lyrics for the music you're listening to. This can easily be done by pressing the three dots () button just as you did to mark whether you liked a song or not.

In this menu you will see the option "Letter" as pointed out by the red arrow in the image below.

11. Change the equalizer settings.

Since the setting does not apply directly to Apple Music, this time you will have to go to the "Settings" application. Here, you must activate the equalizer by clicking on the option marked by the red arrow in the image below. By default, the equalizer is inactive.

You will then see a window where you can choose from several pre-configured equalization models, such as acoustic, classic, bass booster, among various options. There isn't exactly a “right choice” here, so feel free to try and find out the style and tone that suits you best.
