Apple may launch iPhone with Touch ID on the side button in 2021

Today, Ming-Chi Kuo released a note to investors with their predictions of Apple launches for the first half of 2020. He didn’t stop there: the analyst also decided to talk about 2021, more specifically regarding the possibility of Apple launching a iPhone with Touch ID on the side button. He had already mentioned this possibility (including saying that this model would have a 5.5 ″ or 6.1 ″ screen), but now LCD.

But if Kuo himself said that this year, the successors of the iPhones 11 and 11 Pro will come with OLED, then how in 2021 will Apple still launch an LCD model? Makes sense? Allow me to give my opinion.

In my point of view, the idea of the Apple is to continue offering a more affordable device, with a more affordable price. For that, it has to give up OLED technology and Face ID (biometric set that is much more expensive than Touch ID). However, launching a device in 2021 with the edges damaged due to the maintenance of the Start button no longer makes sense.

To solve this, the way would be to throw the Touch ID to the side button – taking into account that placing it under the screen is not cheap either (and destined for high-end iPhones) – in order to leave the front space device only for the display.

But why not do it now, already on the “iPhone 9”, which may be released in March? I would venture to say that if she did that now, many would be surprised at an entry model with better screen utilization than devices premium, which still have a notch/ crop to Face ID.

Who knows, in 2021, Apple will be able to reduce the notch to the point that it is no longer a “nuisance” and reason for comparison with this supposed model with Touch ID on the side button, leaving the line on an equal footing (or close to it) in terms of using the screen. Of course, this is just a guess.

Also according to Kuo, Apple’s new digital printing solution will be capacitive and will come with a “new design” to improve the user experience.

As 2021 is still a long way away… we can only wait.
