Sources close to Apple's partner Asian suppliers said today that the pace of MacBook production and sales may have reached a million units monthly in the fourth quarter of 2010. Of that total, 20-25% would be of the new MacBooks Air.
In the first three quarters of 2010, Apple sold a total of 6.88 million notebooks making its market share overall jump from 3.7% in Q1 to 5.2% in Q3. In the United States, growth was even greater: from 6.7% to 12.6%. The data are from IDC.
Apparently, Apple got it right jackpot with the new Air: its price, portability and performance (mainly stimulated by the adoption of SSDs across the entire line) seem to have pleased consumers a lot.
