Apple rebuilt is rebuilding its maps from scratch, so it is gradually «reopening» the new locations available on its platform. After a brief pause in expansions, users of New York will be able to celebrate support for the renewed Maps, as disclosed by New York Post.
The update began to be distributed last week, increasing geographic details and correcting «numerous errors in the process,» according to the newspaper. As a result, users should see an increase in the details of buildings, roads, parks, parking lots and pedestrian paths – Central Park (Manhattan), for example, gained new exhibits of trails, baseball fields, among others.
In recent months, the focus of the expansion has been on the Northeast region of the United States, with the upgrade already reaching the American capital, Washington, as well as Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and now New York.
Last June, during WWDC19, Apple said that the update of its maps would arrive throughout the American territory by the end of this year, followed by other countries in 2020.
Look around
The brand new feature Look around (Look Around), from iOS 13, also reached two major American metropolises: New York and Los Angeles. As we reported, the option allows you to view roads and establishments in a real way, such as the Street View, Of google.

During the trial period of iOS 13 and the launch of the mobile operating system, the feature was still limited only to the San Francisco Bay area of California, in addition to Las Vegas and parts of Hawaii. However, as well as updating its maps, Apple is working to take you to even more places.
Expansion data
Naturally, the aforementioned expansions are part of Apple’s much larger (and well-calculated) plan, which aims to bring its map resources to as many locations as possible. To understand how the company has done this, the cartographer Justin O’Beirne meticulously documented Apple’s map changes, comparing mapping data from the old version to the latest.

As we said, the updated Apple maps will reach the entire American territory by the end of this year, but there is still a long way to go to get there. According to O’Beirne, the new maps currently cover 27.5% of the USA; almost half of the American population has access to them (47.2%) in 17 states.

In fact, the update of the Maps app brings countless details and even more notes of establishments and other places – even nature has gained attention in this version, with the display of rivers and capillaries in various locations.
