Apple loses to Huawei the rank of second largest smartphone maker

THE Strategy Analytics, a company specialized in market analysis, published a new report on global smartphone sales in 2019. The data collected revealed that the Huawei managed to overtake Apple and became the second largest smartphone maker in the world.

The report points out that the Chinese giant was able to sell about 240 million units, while the American competitor did not reach the 200 million mark, registering "only" 197.4 million. Unsurprisingly, Samsung remains at the top of the ranking, with 295.1 million units sold last year.

Other Chinese manufacturers were also mentioned in the list, namely Xiaomi and Oppo, which totaled 124.8 and 115.1 million smartphones sold in 2019, respectively. This makes it very clear that the strategy of these brands has been working, choosing to sell models with cutting-edge hardware, interesting features and a price that, in most cases, fits in the pocket of consumers.

If we think about it, the fact that Huawei left Apple behind is something remarkable, after all, it has been facing difficulties due to the sanctions imposed by the United States, which accused the spy company and prohibited it from buying products and services from American companies.

This decision affected the Mate 30 line, for example, which was launched without any Google service, something that has hindered expansion in important markets such as Europe. On the other hand, in Huawei's country of origin, sales rose significantly. Reports from Counterpoint Research revealed that China accounted for 60% of the company's global sales.
