Apple launches new educational model of the super-accessible iMac in the United States [atualizado]

This morning, Apple quietly released a new educational version of its desktop all-in-one for now, only available in the United States.

The new iMac costs $ 1,000 and comes with a slightly simpler configuration than the current entry-level consumer model, which goes out for $ 1,150. See the comparison:

Current input model

  • 21.5 inch screen
  • Intel Core i5 quad-core 2.5GHz
  • 1920 Ă— 1080 pixel resolution
  • 4GB (two of 2GB) memory
  • 500GB hard drive
  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB
Educational model

  • 21.5 inch screen
  • Intel Core i3 dual-core 3.1GHz
  • 1920 Ă— 1080 pixel resolution
  • 2GB (two of 1GB) of memory
  • 250GB hard drive
  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 256MB

The last special model of the iMac for education cost $ 900, but still the offer is very interesting.

The big question: will this iMac arrive in Brazil? I think it has everything to arrive. The last model launched by Apple landed here costing R $ 3,500, but had a promotion offering it for R $ 2,850, a very nice price for the national market.

We know that the new iMacs are powerful, even faster than the Macs Pro in several aspects. But if you are a student, want to save a little change and do not need that much power, it is certainly worth waiting a while.

The machine is more “capada” than we imagined:

  • It does not have a Thunderbolt port, but a Mini DisplayPort;
  • It does not incorporate Bluetooth connectivity;
  • Comes with the wired Apple Mouse instead of the Magic Mouse.
