It is nothing new to anyone that Apple takes its commitments to environment, so much so that for more than a year the company has been operating with 100% renewable energy around the world.
Now, the Cupertino giant has been praised by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) for becoming the first technology company to lead the ranking the use of solar energy in business.
SEIA?s annual study found that Apple is the corporation with the largest solar energy capacity in the United States, noting that in the past seven years (since the mapping began), no technology company had taken the top spot.
Counting both local capacity and that of external facilities, Apple adds a production of 393 megawatts (MW) of solar energy, assuming the place occupied until then by Amazon, which in the last year produced 329MW of energy, followed by Target, with 242MW.
In addition to the solar energy production capacity, the Apple Parkspecifically, it is the largest LEED-certified office building in North America ? and not least, as the infrastructure is powered by various renewable sources, such as solar and biogas.
According to SEIA CEO Abigail Ross Hopper, the world?s largest companies are increasingly investing in solar and clean energy ?because it makes economic sense?; she also said that investments in this energy source will become even more significant as companies use this method to combat climate change and even to create jobs.
Throughout 2018, SEIA registered more than 7,000MW of installed solar capacity in 35,000 places spread across 43 American states, which represents more than 70% of the entire solar energy potential in the U.S.
