This week Apple became a member of the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group, or Special Interest Group). The company joins names like Ericsson, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, Nokia and Toshiba, and now has the right to vote on corporate matters of the organization. In addition, the company also guarantees a permanent seat on the SIG board of directors.

Apple has been an innovative part of the Bluetooth ecosystem. Since 2011 the company has collaborated with guidelines and knowledge for the Bluetooth SIG through its participation as an associate member. We are excited to welcome Apple to its new role in the GIS organization and board.
Toby Nixon, chairman of the SIG board of directors.
For Apple, this is important as it now participates more actively in the development of Bluetooth technology. Taking into account that many features of the company's ecosystem depend on Bluetooth (such as AirPlay, AirDrop, Continuity, Handoff, iBeacon, etc.), this appointment makes a lot of sense.
