Apple invited hockey players last Thursday Connor McDavid (from Edmonton Oilers) and Auston Matthews (from Toronto Maple Leafs), in addition to the NHL (National Hockey League) Gary Bettman, to talk about technology, sport and innovation with Ma’s senior vice president of global marketing, Phil Schiller.

The event, closed only to Ma employees, was held in the Town Hall auditorium, on Apple's Infinite Loop campus, and was attended by around 300 company employees outside those who followed an internal live broadcast.
During the conversation, the NHL commissioner praised the growing partnership with Apple, saying that it "transformed the game without changing it itself". The NHL has also started to use iPad Pro to provide video footage of matches in real time to coaches and league teams, giving them details of the moves to contest an impediment or foul, for example similar to VAR (“video referee”) , used in the last World Cup.
Canadian player and Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid also praised the use of technology in games, arguing that this partnership brought more agility to the matches.
The game was never as fast as it is now. You go out there and these guys (the referees) are flying around. We have two referees who want to charge a penalty, two flags and that's not enough. No d to bring more referees. So what are you going to do? You need to resort to technology. I think we did a good job.
In addition to the conversation in the Town Hall, the NHL team also took the Stanley Cup cup to the company's other campus, Apple Park, where Ma employees were able to take pictures with the trophy of one of the most traditional disputes in the USA.

As for the new NHL app for the iPad, Coaching Insight, it provides up to 35 player statistics and 30 team statistics during matches, such as playing percentage, shooting attempts and time on ice. The application will be available in the coming weeks.
