Apple has a hidden app that makes positioning on indoor maps [atualizado]

Apple now has 18 iPhone apps on the App Store, many of them universal. But the developer Steve Stroughton-Smith found that there are actually 19!

This is the Indoor Survey, an application that allows us to mark positioning on maps indoor.

By marking points on the map using the Survey app, you indicate your position on the spot while walking on it. In doing so, the Indoor Survey app measures data from radio frequency signals and combines it with the iPhone's data sensor. The result is a positioning indoor without the need to install special hardware.

Only specific Apple IDs (released by Apple) can download the app. Everything indicates that it is an auxiliary, a complement to the Apple Maps Connect service, which allows merchants to register and appear on company maps.

The idea of the app seems to me to be simple: direct users inside the stores. Imagine a large department store, for example. It would be possible to show users exactly where the product they are looking for is.

It is possible that this app is the result of the acquisition of WiFiSLAM, a company specialized in locating devices over Wi-Fi networks.

By allowing only a few people to download the app, Apple is no doubt able to better control the information that is made available within the app. On the other hand, if she released the application to any user, the amount of information collected would be incredibly greater. Maybe it's just a matter of time
