Apple guides what to do in case of problems with audio or Active Noise Canceling

Apple expanded its leadership in the world wearable market during the 1st quarter

The number of complaints from AirPods Pro about audio issues or Active Noise Canceling, this week Apple released new support documents to guide users.

Let’s go to the problems and possible solutions!

Audio problems

One of the supporting documents refers to a failure that would be causing static sounds or crackling wireless headphones. To rule out the possibility of hardware problems, though, Apple asks users to do a little test:

  1. Make sure you have the latest software on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac connected to AirPods.
  2. Check that the connected device is close and that there is no interference or obstruction between you and it.
  3. Listen to the audio from a different app to see if the app also causes the problem.

If problems persist, Apple asks users to contact the company’s support – especially if crackling on the speaker comes in «noisy environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone».

Based on responses to that topic in the Apple discussion forum, some people are getting new replacement units for AirPods Pro that don’t have the problem.

Active Noise Canceling Problems

The other support document specifically addresses issues with Active Noise Canceling for AirPods Pro (something that, in some cases, may have been caused by a faulty firmware update).

Yesterday, even, Apple updated the AirPods Pro firmware to version 2D15, which (presumably) should fix this problem. As always, some say it improved cancellation, while others saw no difference; in some cases, however, users said the feature got worse after the update:

The new # 2D15 firmware from #AirPodsPro has significantly improved bass response and noise cancellation.

I compared AirPods Pro running 2C54 vs. 2D15, placing them one in each ear and there is no difference in noise cancellation.

The long-awaited 2D15 update of the AirPods Pro firmware is finally available. And is active noise cancellation… worse than before? What’s going on with Apple here?

If, even with the update, Active AirPods Pro Noise Canceling is not working properly, Apple recommends the following:

  1. Make sure you have the latest software on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac connected to AirPods.
  2. Place both AirPods Pro in your ears and check that Active Noise Cancellation is enabled.
  3. Clean the mesh on the top of the AirPods Pro (image below). Sometimes, Active Noise Cancellation is affected if there is an accumulation of waste or earwax in the area.

If the feature still does not work as expected, the user should then contact Apple support, as this problem can result in the loss of serious AirPods Pro and an increase in background noise, especially in environments with high noise.

Apple has also released a third support document, which guides you on how to best use your AirPods [Pro], EarPods and Beats headphones to “make sure you have the best experience using them”.

Therefore, Apple tells how to get a good fit and recognize possible skin sensitivities – at the end of the document, the company describes the materials used in the composition of AirPods, EarPods and Beats headphones.
