The Cupertino giant is the big boss of the wearable market a long time ago – thanks mainly to the continued success of the Apple Watch, From AirPods and brand headphones Beats, which count as a subcategory of wearables.
As if the company’s “invincibility” in this market were not enough, Apple expanded its leadership during the first quarter of this year, according to a new survey published by IDC.
According to data from the firm, sales of Apple’s wearables have increased by almost 60%, to 21.2 million units, in the first three months of the year – helping the company to capture almost 30% of this market.
According to IDC, however, there was a drop in the sale of Apple Watches (caused by interruptions in the Chinese production chain during February and March); still, Apple achieved strong results thanks to the increased demand for AirPods and Beats headphones.
Consumers were clamoring for these sophisticated headsets, not only for the ability to play audio, but also to help them increase productivity, as many of them were forced to work from home and looked for ways to reduce ambient noise while they were connected to their smartphones and virtual assistants.
Second comes Xiaomi, which saw growth of 56.4% year-on-year with 10.1 million pieces of clothing sold. Samsung (+ 71.7%), Huawei (+ 62.2%) and Fitbit (-26.1%) are the other major manufacturers that make up the rest of the Top 5 of the research, respectively.
Overall, sales of wearables grew 29.7% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year, totaling 72.6 million units. In the near future, Apple is expected to launch “AirPods Studio” and expand the Powerbeats Pro line with new colors.
